New Camera, New Excitement

4/27/2021

I finally got a new camera, and I couldn't be more thrilled. But there definitely is something to say about being a little sad letting go of my old 7D. So I decided to take a few farewell shots in memory.

TBH Life is fun

I just realized I never update my blog. Well, that's because life is pretty good. I am enjoying my creative endeavors. Sunnydale High released a second e.p. My freelance website work has been picking up, and video is getting more and more prevalent.

For now: Be decent, be kind and react with love not fear.

Wow. I have been so busy. Right now I am starting my own one-stop media business. If you needs pics, words or some printed material, I am your guy. My goal is to expand and do more web and video, so if you have a need for that sort of thing don't hesitate to shoot me a line.

I shot a beautiful wedding a few weeks ago. Corrine and Ross were such a blast to work with. I hope my other weddings this year are just as easy going.

My new regional news/entertainment website, Static and Noise, will launch soon. I am working out the kinks now, but the dummy looks good so far. The site should fill a great void in the area, one that I feel has been neglected-much like this blog.

UW versus New Mexico State

11/30/2014

UW battled it out against New Mexico State Saturday, and I must say it was a great game. The teams were neck and neck most of the time. The Pokes pulled through when they needed to and eventually won, but it wasn't without a struggle. Nance came back in full force, a force we hadn't seen since before the ACL injury. He looked like a certified rock star Saturday. He had his blocks, his dunks and his assists.  Speaking of dunks, the crowd got to see their share of dunks once more. UW always seem to pull off a few. Adams. Sellers, Nance, Derek Cooke Jr., all had their glory in the newly proclaimed "Dunk City."
P.S.  Internet connection is bad (cellphone), so my cutlines are just quick tags.

Wonder Years/ Story So Far

10/24/2014

The Wonder Years played in Cheyenne last night at the Atlas Theater. I ended up going on a whim, basically anything to leave the house for a bit.

There were three other bands  rocking the stage with them. The English band, the Gnarwolves, played some straight up bare bones, high energy, over-driven punk.  The sweat began to drip off the band and audience, dampening the walls.

I missed the second band, Modern Baseball, I didn't really hear any reviews, which I was surprised. No one said they were good, no one said they were bad. They just existed.

The Story So Far followed ripped through the stage next.  I didn't realize how many people loved this band. They were a balls-out punk powered band who hit the stage with energy and enthusiasm. The band was quick to knock down the fourth wall, inviting people up for stage diving and involving the crowd in gang vocal sing alongs. Kids crowd surfed along the sea of pumping hands up to the heated stage and then flew off--over and over. The entire floor was chanting the songs with them.  I am sure they were the clear highlight of the night, at least for me.

The Wonder Years had quite a few of loyal fans in the front who were in ecstasy to watch them. There is something about this band that really irked me. One of those- I just don't like them- type of bands. With six members cluttering the stage, they really did seem to be just "performing" rather than playing music for the love. They lacked the sincerity and energy the three-piece Gnarwolves began the show with. I've seen many indie and emo bands in my day, these guys just didn't seem authentic--But hen again I am old and jaded-- but then again, they probably are too. When the singer said the band played here even though they knew they would lose money, I got pissed. They said they were doing it for the kids. This is not how punk bands speak, this is how pretentious rock bands speak. Being the fact that these guys arrived in the largest tour buses to Cheyenne I have seen outside of the performers who play at the Civic Center and Frontier days, and they were talking as if they were giving Cheyenne charity by playing here, I got pretty pissed--Who says that? Why mention money? What kind of band brings that up? That being said, they did what they do well. The music was tight and well written. It just wreaked of fakeness. In my mind it was it could have been Iggy Azalea at this point with its manufactured flavors and hints of genuine subtly.

But in the end, it was great to have a show like this in Cheyenne.  Many people here do not realize the effort and risks it takes to bring bands of this caliber. Even if I don't like some of the bands, I will support the effort.

Cheers

Forever ago-CFD

It seems like it has been forever ago since I had last posted anything here. The date below will confirm that. Shooting has been interesting over the last few months. College has swept me beneath it's violent currents and other things have pulled me in as well--but here I am.
I have had the chance to shoot Frontier Days once more. It has been great. But honestly, I have been rusty. There are moments I enjoy, those moments I persevere and those moments I learn from.

But here are a few.

Kid Rock played Cheyenne Frontier Days June 26, 2014. I can't say I am a Kid Rock fan, but his stage presence was quite energetic, it reminded me of a poor man's Axl Rose to some extent.  I got this before my camera went kaput. It got caught up in the middle of both Joan Jett and Kid Rock. Good times :)

This is another one from Cheyenne Frontier Days June 26, 2014. In this particular image, she is rocking some Bad Reputation, and it is awesome. I still spin my Bad Reputation vinyl on those days in which I need to just bounce around my living room like no one is watching--mainly because no one is watching.
CFD is comprised of rodeo, music, wacky tourist events and a carnival. Those also always prove to be fun.

From left, Wyatt, Carson and Clint Combs Load some wood to be hauled to their camp Friday morning at the Kids' Chuck Wagon Cook-off in Frontier Park. --
There is a a Kid's chuck Wagon Cook-off at CFD, where people from the area and all over come and compete. Most people compete in a few events, there is the Wagon Competition, wagons are judged on authenticity, and the Adult Chuck Wagon Cook-off. It's a bunch of folk looking like pioneers and cooking. Sounds fun, but not for me.

This little guy made me smile. In this pic, Air Force SSgt Ben Villa assists 6-year-old Manuel Linarez with a pull-up Thursday afternoon in frontier Park. He said they were looking for recruits. I think they found one.

Here are a few pages I made in the Wyoming Tribune Eagle for the CFD.

Winter is over in Wyoming, which nearly seems impossible to fathom. We have winter about nine months a year, so summer seems like such a fantasy. So today I officially let go of winter by putting this guy up. I'll see you again soon Mr. Jack Frost, but don't hurry on my accord.

So during the half-time of the Boise game there were these tiny cheerleaders who going to do their thing at half-time. I saw a few of them right before they went on. Sooooo Cute!!!! I really wish I knew the parents so I could share.
UW does many cute things at half-time, from the baby crawl to the pee-wee basketball, and generally they are successful--at least in the photographic sense. Kids= adorable picture all the time.

What happened? The Pokes were nailing it. They were up in the first half, and then they lost. Adams had the team carried on his back, but he is only one guy.
